Sainsbury's shopper delighted by online grocery order 'lottery win'

A thrilled Sainsbury's shopper says she felt like she'd "won the lottery" after her online grocery delivery arrived earlier this week. While ordering food online can frequently lead to disappointment due to missing items or unwanted substitutions, every now and then customers get lucky.

That's exactly what happened to one woman who posted on Reddit following her delivery to announce her good fortune. "Feel like a lottery winner this morning," she wrote.

"Ordered a leg of lamb from Sainsbury's and got a bonus leg free," she added, sharing a photograph of the meat in her kitchen. The fresh whole legs - costing £14.84 and £18.24 for Nectar card holders, represented an even better deal given they would have cost non-card members a substantial £29.67 and £36.49.

According to the supermarket's website, British or New Zealand whole legs of lamb (approximately 2.3kg) are available at the reduced price for a limited period only.

Writing in response, one Reddit user joked: "Don't let Sainsbury's try to take back the extra one if they find out. They don't have a leg to stand on."

Another person shared: "I had something like that happen, I ordered one T9940 tape and I received two and I didn't order two, just one which is incredibly lucky as those are pretty expensive."

A delighted shopper recounted: "I got a text from Asda about two weeks ago to say my £80 shop had been cancelled and I wouldn't receive my delivery... it had already been delivered, got it all the day before I got this text. Winning."

Whilst a fourth Reddit user declared: "Winning! This is like the time I was refunded my whole Tesco order twice! It was originally just shy of £200. I had submitted a refund request for a damaged case of eggs. Of course I kept quiet about it."

And someone else speculated: "I like to think this is an employee 'sticking it to the man' and putting an extra one in.

"There's been countless reports of Amazon parcels turning up with higher capacity hard drives and more expensive things than what was ordered. But £14/£18 is insane for meat (and that's Nectar prices! )."

In other supermarket news, anyone organising their festive online food shopping should note that Sainsbury's delivery slots are now being assigned.

Sainsbury's Christmas delivery slots became available on October 23, allowing customers to schedule food deliveries for dates ranging from December 18 to 24.

Changes to your order can be made until 11pm on the evening before your scheduled delivery or collection time.
